MEOW! Welcome to Catmosphere Laguna
The final product is absolute heaven for cats… and for the people who love them. The “Kitty Lounge” houses about 15 at a time, serving as a foster home until they are adopted into their “furrrever” homes.

Founded by Gail Allyn Landau, Catmosphere Laguna will serve as both a community café and a foster home for adoptable cats & kittens. Originating in Taiwan in 1998, cat cafés have since become a global phenomenon, inspiring similar business models to open across Japan, London, and most recently, the U.S..
Maybe it was the wine. Maybe it was the vibe. But if you’ve ever fallen in love in a restaurant and want to feel that rush again, be watching closely in August. Late summer is when Catmosphere Laguna, Orange County’s first cat café, is expected to open at 381 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach. The cat café phenom, which started in Taiwan in 1998 and has since gone global, banks on customers getting smitten by kittens.
Upon entering, guests can order food and drinks to enjoy in the bright café area. To my surprise, the cats were in a playroom completely separate from the café. Caroline clued me in on the backstory — they never really considered having the cats and food in the same space, and even if they wanted to, California state laws would’ve prohibited it. Instead, a bar area next to a large window allows guests to enjoy their food and watch the cats from a distance before heading into the playroom. The menu consists of a variety of toasts, salads and small plates. Additionally, guests can purchase alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea.

Catmosphere Laguna, a cat café with felines, food, Champagne, and, presumably, bowls of milk, is opening later this summer on Forest Avenue in Laguna Beach. The café will serve as both a place to hang out and cuddle kitties and a foster home for the animals, which are all adoptable. Owner Gail Allyn Landau is planning for an August opening.
Home to 30 dog-friendly restaurants, a dozen pet groomers, beaches that are nearly 100% dog-friendly outside of summer and a popular dog park, Laguna Beach demonstrates its residents’ love for animals. By month’s end, the beach town is expected to add to its extensive list of pet and animal services with Catmosphere, a combination shelter and café in the heart of downtown.
